In 2016 the time had finally come, the long awaited new version of Magento – Magento2 – has been released. As a dedicated Magento Specialist , we would like to keep you informed of new developments. Wondering if now is the right time to switch to Benefits Magento2? Or maybe you want to start a new Ecommere store and are you wondering whether Magento2 is suitable for this?
In this post I outline the current state of affairs.
Magento2 is a huge change for anyone used to Magento 1.9.x. The entire interface has been overhauled, but a lot more has changed besides these visual aspects:
The most noticeable change is of course the completely new interface.
The interface of Magento2 has become much more user-friendly.
In Magento2, a clear split has been made between system and shop management, which benefits navigating through the cms.
In addition, creating or adjusting a product in the webshop has become a lot easier thanks to the new layout.
Of course, Magento2 cannot lag behind in the responsive web design trend. From now on, responsive web design with Benefits Magento2 is fully supported.
In Magento2, the demo theme has been made fully responsive. The intention is that developers can use this as a basis to make custom themes more easily available for all screen sizes.
I’ll spare you the technical details. Because the file structure on the server has changed, Benefits Magento2 has become a lot more secure. The new structure ensures that developers can better protect the code against security vulnerabilities, etc
Magento2 runs on HTML5, on which CSS3 and LESS can be installed. Thanks to LESS you will no longer have to change one color in 30 places to give the webshop a new atmosphere.
LESS can arrange this for you by, for example, defining the main color ‘blue’ centrally, so that it only needs to be adjusted in one place.
This saves you a lot of work if you want to give the webshop a nice Christmas atmosphere ;-).
One of the biggest new features of Magento 2 is the Visual Design Editor. The Visual Design Editor makes it possible to adjust themes visually via the CMS.
This allows you as a webshop owner to easily make changes yourself and you are not always dependent on the developer of the webshop.
Thanks to a drag-and-drop principle, it has become a lot more accessible to make adjustments to your theme.
It is preached that with the arrival of Magento 2, the way Magento handles certain processes would be at least 20% improved compared to the current Magento 1.x version. Although opinions are still divided, the performance of Magento 2 actually seems better than Magento 1.
This is also a relatively technical point that webshop owners will hardly notice, since this is specifically intended for the developers.
Magento2 has 1000’s of built-in tests that ensure that further development does not hinder the performance of your webshop and that a go-live goes smoothly.
