Prosecutors investigating Springboks’ Eben Etzebeth over alleged assault and racial abuse
Prosecutors in South Africa are exploring if Springboks lock Eben Etzebeth was involved in an alleged attack and case of abuse per day last month before he was named in his country’s World Cup squad.
The South African Rugby Union says it’s providing its”full cooperation” and”will require proper action” after the analysis is complete, raising the possibility that Etzebeth might be called back in the World Cup in Japan.
Etzebeth denied abusing or assaulting anybody once the allegations surfaced and went to Japan with all the Springboks squad.
Prosecutors are trying to establish if Etzebeth was included in a pub brawl at the coastal city of Langebaan.
They are also exploring allegations he abused a person on the identical night in a separate incident.
South Africa face New Zealand in their opening match of the World Cup in Yokohama City on September 21.
